Projects

I work on various projects pretty much constantly but only post things to this site in sporadic bursts. Expect to see a mix of electronics, craftwork, chemistry, and miscellaneous experiments on here.

01/15/08Solar PanelI found what seemed to be a real deal on individual polysilicon solar cells, and thought that I would save some money by building my own panel. Well, I made the panel, and it works, but it sure wasn't worth the time, effort, and most importantly, money that went into it. I would definitely think twice about building my own in the future.
01/15/08Transistor as LEDAll semiconductor junctions are photoactive to some degree. Somewhat surprisingly, a power transistor can be made to act as a (very, very inefficient) LED!
01/14/08Capacitor Six-PackIt's a six-pack, but it isn't beer.
A book with embedded flash memory11/04/06BookdriveUSB-connected FlashROM digital storage concealed inside a book.
Stereo sound from two dead hard drives05/22/06Hard Drive StereoThe logical extension of the hard drive speaker is the hard drive stereo. Two hard drive speakers with independent volume control, 12 volt power, and an MP3 player all securely mounted on a cheap plastic cutting board.
05/22/06Lessons Learned: My first PCBMy experiences relating to the printed circuit I produced for my group's senior design project.
04/22/06Hard Drive AudioA perversion of hard disk drive technology that allows one to play music using the R/W head position actuator as a speaker element. I showed it to one of my professors and he called it "evil." A compliment?
04/21/06Long-term MemoryMy long term memory is a leather-bound notebook into which I transcribe concise, organized re-writes of all my notes for a term of college courses. Unlike a textbook, I can come back to this years later and instantly understand the contents, because it is in my own words.
04/21/06Early Rocket Fuel TrialsOld pictures of one of my first attempts at making an effective sugar-nitrate solid rocket fuel.
04/05/06Serial Pic Programmer, revisedA newer version of my first programmer that works for newer PICs with internal oscillators.
